Roma Center for women and children Daja realized a study visit to SŽK Podgorica in the period from 19.06. until 21.06.2023.year, with the support of the Trag Foundation, which has allocated funds from the fund for study visits. There were three members of the association, Jelena Marinković, psychologist, Maja Škorić, lawyer and Mina Joksimović. communications and public relations manager
We decided to visit SZCK because the organization provides accommodation service for women who have experience of male violence, and our organization is currently developing the idea of establishing an emergency shelter for women in a situation of acute violence (in Serbia there is a need for emergency accommodation without a complicated and discriminatory admission procedure and the existing capacities are insufficient to accommodate new beneficiaries).
In the safe women’s house we met Mira Saveljić, executive director, Nada Jelovac, psychologist, Nadja Pavićević, assistant and Jelena Jovanović, psychologist, who were very kind and dedicated to introducing us to the work of the organization and showed great interest in our work. Also, they showed us the fact that the percentage of Roma women who are housed in a safe house compared to the total number of women of other nationalities is about 30%.
Colleagues from SŽK shared their experiences about the way their organization works, presented us with projects, services they provide, and a special part of the meeting related to the discussion about the organization and the way the shelter for women works.
During the study trip we visited the shelter SŽK, where we got acquainted with the space, the way of work of the shelter and the services available to the users
The study visit enabled us to look at good examples of practice that exist in Montenegro and to discuss future joint initiatives.
