IX X XI i XII radionica- OAK fondacije

Naziv radionice: Bezbednost u romskim naseljima u gradskoj sredini

Mesto i datum održavanja:

Mesto i datum održavanja:

Marinkova bara, 24.07. 2025.

Women from the Kotež settlement participated in the workshop, there were 6 of them in total. A large number of participants are our long-term beneficiaries.
The aim of the workshop is for participants to learn how to recognize the needs of a woman who has experienced violence and whether she is in acute violence, as well as the forms of violence to which she is exposed.
Participants are clearly informed about the needs of women in violence as well as the mechanisms for overcoming trauma, i.e. the competent institutions and institutions to which they need to turn if they have experienced violence or are exposed to another criminal offense (stalking, insult, harassment, etc.).
It was achieved that the participants gained a clear idea of the consequences-the impact of criminal behavior on the victim. It is also important that they gained knowledge related to defining different forms of violence against women. Of course, they also gained a clear idea of the needs of victims and who can help them.

The participants assessed the workshop as useful and necessary for their further work, during the workshop they were open and actively participated by sharing their own experiences of positive and negative phenomena they encounter in the field.
Some associates told their personal stories, shared their views on the topic of domestic violence/violence against women, while long-time associates/users talked about situations that are happening in their city/municipality and concern the areas of violence, safety and discrimination.

They also highlighted as an important part of the workshop the simulation of providing legal support in the case when the person calling is a victim of a criminal offense of persecution.

NINTH WORKSHOP WITHIN THE PROJECT SUPPORTED BY THE OAK FOUNDATION
Workshop title: Security in Roma settlements in urban areas
Place and date:
Zvečanska settlement, Belgrade, 16.07.2025.
9 women participated in the workshop.
The workshop was organized with the aim of identifying key security challenges faced by families in Roma settlements in urban areas, as well as discussing possible solutions and support measures.
The participants actively participated in the discussion, sharing personal experiences and challenges they face on a daily basis. They spoke in particular about the frequent fires in their settlement. Several participants pointed out that fires are a frequent occurrence in the settlement, most often caused by inadequate electrical installations, makeshift barracks, heating units and poor housing conditions.
Poverty is the main cause of many security problems. Lack of basic livelihoods, poor infrastructure and limited access to public services further worsen the situation. Some families from the settlement are engaged in collecting secondary environments, they bring in large amounts of cardboard and garbage that they deposit near their homes. This further contributes to the risk of frequent fires.
Participants expressed a feeling of neglect by local institutions, as well as a lack of information about available assistance and protection programs. They stated that no one wants to help them directly for a long time.
Women spoke about another problem. The settlement is located near the Partizan stadium, which poses an additional security risk for residents, especially when matches are held. Workshop participants pointed out that during matches, fans often pass by the settlement, with loud cheering, pyrotechnics and sometimes physical clashes. This behavior causes fear among women and children, especially in the evening hours.
The workshop showed that women from the Zvečanska settlement are clearly aware of the problems that surround them and are ready to cooperate in finding solutions. Systemic support and greater involvement of local institutions are needed to provide them with a safe and dignified environment.

TENTH WORKSHOP WITHIN THE PROJECT SUPPORTED BY THE OAK FOUNDATION
Workshop title: Housing insecurity as a reason for moving abroad.
Venue and date:
Marinkova bara, 24.07. 2025.

The workshop was attended by 7 women. The workshop was organized with the aim of investigating the causes of migration of Roma families from Roma settlements, with a special focus on unsafe housing conditions as one of the key factors that encourage moving abroad.
The participants shared their personal experiences and challenges they face in everyday life. They spoke openly and emotionally. They gave specific examples of housing-related problems.
Most of the participants live in buildings without basic infrastructure, without sewage, safe electricity and water connections. Floods often occur during rainy days. Several families were flooded during the winter and were forced to temporarily move abroad. Many families do not have formal documents on the ownership of the buildings they live in, which creates an additional problem in secure housing. One of the participants mentioned that they feel very bad and live from us until tomorrow.
The conclusion from the workshop is that families want to leave the country precisely because of the inability to provide a safe home for their children. The departure most often occurs towards EU countries, where they hope for a safer life.

ELEVENTH WORKSHOP WITHIN THE PROJECT SUPPORTED BY THE OAK FOUNDATION
Workshop title: Emotional and psychological empowerment of women with experience of violence

We mentioned the role of tradition and social expectations in the empowerment process. We talked about setting boundaries and recognizing violence.
Special emphasis was placed on the challenges of life in traditional Roma families, where women are often expected to remain silent and suffer. The participants spoke about the pressure of the community, but also about the strength they find in mutual support.
The workshop showed that women from the Roma settlement in Zemun possess exceptional courage and the will to fight for a dignified life. Emotional and psychological empowerment requires a sensitive approach and continuous support. Such meetings contribute not only to individual recovery, but also to strengthening the community in the fight against violence.
